The Tick is a satirical superhero character created by Ben Edlund, first appearing in the self-published comic book, The Tick #1 in 1986, published by New England Comics.
The character is an absurdly muscular, nigh-invulnerable, and enthusiastic superhero. He often spouts nonsensical battle cries and embraces the tropes of superhero comics with exaggerated zeal.
The Tick's origins are intentionally vague and ridiculous. He escapes from a mental institution in an unspecified location before arriving in The City to become a superhero.
